Women's Veil (clothing) in Pre- Islamic Iran

The purpose of this paper is to study women's veil in Iran before Islam using historical references in different governmental eras to demonstrate type of veil. To this end, historical documents describing and analyzing women's veil in ancient Iran have been studied using library research method. The findings of this research show that the Iranian women's veil has moral, religious and social background and support. In spite of climatic differences during eras and governmental and social developments, this veil has been generally similar and relatively complete, loose and monotonous. The common clothing used by Iranian women has been similar to today’s veil and that the wearing veil was observed more strictly in aristocracy and government strata than ordinary women.
