A study of Internet usage at university libraries located in Qom

Abstract:
The specific goal of this research is to study the utilization of the Internet among the libraries of Qom universities, using a descriptive-analytical method. The research society of this study is all libraries in the Qom universities making use of the Internet. The number of libraries is 17 (with totally 59 librarians) and through questionnaire required data were collected. Research findings Show that 76/5% of libraries in the Qom universities have access to the Internet (81/3% of librarians in the research). Average rate of Internet usage among librarians is between 1 to 2 hours per day. 28/8% of librarians use e-mail in reference and information department, 88/1% use the Internet for high speed and accuracy and providing good services to users in a short time and also having a better use of the time and place in library. The results of this study show that the Internet in reference and information department plays a significant role, while in the circulation department does less. 45/8% of librarians believe that lack of familiarity with Internet and its applications are the main reasons which librarians don’t use of it in providing service to end-users.
