Appropriateness of Age Groups, Quantity and Quality of Real Life Fictions from the Viewpoint of Instructors at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Childrenand Young Adults in Khuzestan Province

The purpose of this research was to investigate the viewpoints of instructors of the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children & Young Adults (IIDCYA) on the age groups, quantity & quality of the real stories available in the CIDCYA libraries in Khuzestan province. The research was a survey of the descriptive type; the data was collected by means of a questionnaire analyzed using SPSS software. The research population consisted of 98 IIDCYA instructors (2007-2008). Results indicated that 33.8 percent of the instructors considered age groups D and E as the best audience for romance fictions; 41.2 percent considered age groups A, B and C suitable for animal stories and 35 percent considered age groups C and D for other kinds of stories. Quantitatively, of 11 types of real stories, 5 have been very weak (46 percent), 4 have been average (36 percent), 1 has been strong (9 percent) and 1 has been very strong (9 percent). Qualitatively, of 11 types of real stories, 8 have been average (73 percent), 1 has been weak (9 percent), 1 has been very strong (9 percent) and 1 has been strong (9 percent). Some suggestions are presented at the end to improve these stories in IIDCYA libraries and enhance the interest of children and young adults in reading real stories.
