The Study of Homogenization and Thermomechanical Behavior of Inconel 718 Superalloy During Ingot to Billet Conversion

Because of intense segregation during solidification of Inconel 718, direct mechanical working on cast ingots is not possible. Therefore, the purpose of this investigation is to determine proper homogenization and thermo-mechanical cycles that are need toconvert cast ingot to wrought condition. To do so, different homogenization and hot forging cycles were carried out on cast ingots to investigate microstructural changes. The resulting microstructural evolution was evaluated by optical and electron microscopes.Finally, a homogenized structure accompanied with a uniform distribution of grain size (ASTM 2-3) was produced.
