Pathology of Irani an University Textbooks in Educational Science

This paper first discusses how Western-originated educational science wasintroduced into the higher education system of the Islamic societies especially Iran,and then it deals with some of the deficiencies of the textbooks compiled anddeveloped according to the Western schools of thought by the Iranian scholars.Furthermore, it reviews the steps taken towards revision of textbooks in the abovementionedfield in recent decades in Iran. Finally, the paper proposes someguidelines for the development of educational science university textbooks. Theseguidelines are as follows: 1) Testing psychological and educational theories withinthe cultural contexts of our societies. 2) Criticizing Western psychological andeducational schools presented in our textbooks. 3) Formulating theories inspired bythe Islamic sources. 4) Presenting native research findings in university textbooks.
