Connectivism Learning Theory and its Application in the Development of University Textbooks

Abstract:
Connectivism is considered as the modern paradigm of the digital age. The theoryhas challenged behaviorist, cognitive, and constructive learning theories, andregarding the necessities of the digital age, it seems more effective than otherlearning theories. As Siemens argues, such theories have been formulated in an agewhen learning was not dominated by modern technology. But in recent decades,technology has reorganized the style of life, communication and learning, anddeveloped new trends in the realm of learning. Siemens believes that education, as afield, has been always slow in both recognizing the impact of modern learning tools,and those environmental changes that are meaningful to learning. Therefore, hethinks that connectivism theory is a proper and timely reaction by educationaliststowards the present situation of society and its current technologies. This articlestudies the theoretical and applied notions of connectivism theory and among them,selects the most important ones for discussion.
