Reflection of Iranian and Islamic Cerebrations in the Poems of Shahriyār

Celebrations have their roots in culture and traditions of a society and one way to know the societies is to know these cultures and traditions. In the poetries remained from the past, there are direct and indirect references to these celebrations. Poets have played an important role in preserving them. There have been more references in the past to ceremonies; the reason for it has been the poets who were perhaps connected to the courts. They would recite a poem for an occasion and present it to the ruler or the king. After Constitution Revolution, the poets went away from the court and poetry found its way to the people. Topics of the poems became every day important subjects and the attention to ceremonies moved away. Poets paid less attention to ceremonies and their attention has been mainly to Nowrooz. In this article, Iranian and Islamic ceremonies which have been mentioned in Shahriyar’s poem have been investigated and the customs relating to each ceremony have been studied. His book of poems has been studied. Among Iranian ceremonies, he has mentioned Nowrooz, Mehregān, Sadeh and Yaldā. Among the Islamic ceremonies he has mentioned Fitr, Prophet’s birthday, 15th Sha’bān and Ghadir.
