Development of a Model for Designing Urban Bus Transit Network Based on Tabu Search

Transportation system can be considered as an interactive position of supply and demand. Designing the bus lines is considered as a supply management procedure, which is fact-making decision about promotion of bus transportation system within the circumstances of limited resources for investment and construction. Whereas Bus Transit Network Planning is a complex combinatorial issue, heuristic methods are used to solve this problem. Research method used for this project is Tabu search algorithm. In this method with use of a tabu list, different prose of search in the solution space is stored and this memory is used to conduct the search to the better solutions. Using parameters involved in designing the bus network, concepts of this method are extended and adapted to Gazvin Bus Network. Results show that using this method, can provide routes based on both the operator and transit users cost reduction.
