A Survey on the types of reference services of the central libraries of Islamic Azad University

Abstract:
Purpose
The purpose of this research is to study the different reference services offerd in central libraries of Islamic Azad University.
Methodology
The research method is descriptive, and to gather information a researcher made questionnaire including82 questions related to different aspects of the reference sources and services has been used. The research community included 75 very big and comprehensive IAU central libraries.
Findings
Findings indicate that 51.5% of the reference librarians are male and 45.3 p% females, 28.2%, have B.A of LIS and 9.8 %have M.A of LIS, among whom 43 %are familiar with English language. Results shows that among traditional reference services, providing copies of document is outmost one by 21.6% and the offering the other specialized services are not in a proper state. Individual users’training is the first preference of the librarians by 41.5 % and the main reason of the librarians for not answering the user’s needs is lack of reference sources.
Conclusion
Finally an organizational model is presented for reference department of all central academic libraries focusing on IAU.
