Comparative model on Urban Primacy and the index of four cities in the division of Khorassan province

The questions of the vastness and the geopolitical conditions of the division of Khorassan province have been of increasing concern in recent years. Based on the latest division made in September 2004 by the ministry of the interior and the Parliament, the greater Khorassan was divided into three provinces: North Khorassan, South Khorassan and central Khorasan or Khorassan Razavi. In this article, we briefly survey the history of this division and present an analysis of the political-administrative divisions and the population characteristics of the greater cities of Khorassan and the newly emerged provinces. The analysis will be carried out following the urban model within the framework of prime city model and the indexes of four cities. Also, the consequences of the new prime cities and the situation of the capital cities of the new provinces and the dominant cities have been examined.
