The Relation between the Wife's Right to Work and Her Obedience to Her Husband

Author(s):
Abstract:
Islam has recognized the wife’s right to work and have financial independence, yet on the other hand the husband’s authority upon the family and his right to be obeyed, has restricted the wife’s right to work. According to Iranian law and Islamic principles the wife cannot leave the home without her husband’s permission nor do jobs which are in conflict with the interests of the family. These so called contradictions in Iranian law is the topic of research of the present article wherein the author, based on Islamic jurisprudence and Iranian law, tries to prove that no such contradictions exist between the woman’s right to work and her obligation to obey her husband. In fact each of these rights is related to some aspects of life in order to protect family relations. But certainly there are some laws and Islamic principles which do not allow the husband to abuse his rights and deprive the wife of her legal human right to work. One of the solutions to limit the husband’s rights is the marriage proviso.
