How and When Did Tanz (Satire) Turn into a Literary Term?

The word tanz has been present in the past history of Farsi; however، it is not long that this word has turned into a literary term، and soon after became a frequent word in everyday language. Nevertheless، the manner and the approximate date that this word entered the glossary of Persian literary terms have been ignored in most of the related researches. In order to come up with a solution to this problem، first، we have reviewed the definitions of tanz in dictionaries to show the need for a new definition for this word based upon its current meaning and، also، its usage as a technical term. Next، we have turned to the main subject of this paper—searching for the date and manner this word appeared in Persian literary terminology. The results reveal that the word has been chosen as an equivalent for foreign literary terms and its actual presence dates، at most، to some four decades ago.
