The comparison of social skills and academic achievement among ordinary and multiple-grade students in elementary school

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to determine the differences of social skills and academic achievement among normal classes and multiple-grade classes in elementary schools. The study used the descriptive (Survey) method of data collection. The participants in this study were 279 students (normal =228،multiplegrade= 51) at elementary school in Savojbolagh. Two instruments were used to collect data. Social skills were measured by a researcher-designed questionnaire and academic achievement was measured by an accomplishment test. The data were analyzed by using the Pearson product – moment correlation technique and T test. The major findings were as follows: 1) there is a significant difference between total academic achievements. Ordinary students had higher academic achievement than multiple-grade students 2) Ordinary students had higher scores than multiple-grade students in four text books such as Science، Geography، Persian and mathematics. 3) There is a significant difference between social skills among Ordinary and multiplegrade students. Multiple-grade students had higher social skills than ordinary students.
