A Comparative Analysis of Happiness and Joyfulness from the Viewpoint of Islam and Psychology

Current study was done with the purpose of comparing the happiness concept in the viewpoint of Islam and psychology. Happiness as a vitality and prosperity is one of the most important human psychological needs and because of its main effects on human life has a great importance. There has been a special attention in the religious teachings to role and importance of happiness in life and its causes as far as repeatedly in islamic prescriptions، hadithes and narratives infallible Imams (PBUH) have recommended the positive and targeted happiness. Many researches also have been conducted in psychology regarding happiness and joyfulness as one of the positive excitements. Method of research was analytic-documentary method that investigated the concept of happiness by collecting data from islamic and psychological texts. Results showed that: 1) mirthfulness is one of the essential issues of individual life in society. 2) There has been a special emphasis on the religious teachings to role and importance of happiness in life. 3) Also in psychology، (in the format of positive psychology); there has been a great importance to happiness (especially recent years). This research showed that Islam is the most complete religion that pays attention to all of human life affairs and if we say Islam and islamic culture is equal to exhilaration، hope and happiness; we have said nothing wrong. From the topics mentioned in this study، we conclude that many of islamic teachings is aligned and coordinated with issues raised by researchers and psychologists in the field of happiness.
