    Purpose

Governments today are increasingly focused on managing environmental and economic challenges to safeguard the environment. Consequently, companies are striving to remain competitive in society. This paper introduces a revenue-sharing agreement between the retailer and the manufacturer. The contract is designed to alleviate the research and development costs incurred by the manufacturer in greening their products. Additionally, the paper incorporates consumer surplus as a consideration for the social dimension, which is a key pillar of sustainability.

    Methodology

Government interventions in this paper are modeled as subsidies that influence the final price of the product. Notably, this study, for the first time, integrates all three dimensions of sustainability—social, economic, and environmental—within a game-theoretic framework that includes government intervention and a revenue-sharing agreement between the retailer and the manufacturer.

    Findings

The modeling results demonstrated that incorporating consumer surplus enhances the profitability of both the government and the manufacturer. Although consumer surplus reduces wholesale prices and revenue-sharing proportions, it leads to increased product sales. This boosts the benefits for consumers and members of the supply chain, contributing to improved greenness and higher levels of product sustainability. Consumers show a preference for purchasing products with greater environmental benefits; however, higher levels of greenness require increased production costs. Manufacturers can boost their sales through research and development efforts and by raising public awareness about green products. As a result, manufacturers, retailers, and the government adjust prices and subsidies to maximize their respective profits, altering the overall profitability of the supply chain. The findings highlight that social welfare is a crucial consideration in supply chains, as it significantly enhances the profitability of chain members and promotes higher levels of green production.

    Originality/Value:

This paper is the first to examine all dimensions of sustainability—social, economic, and environmental—within a theoretical framework that incorporates government intervention and the impact of consumer surplus on pricing policies and the greening of products. The scientific contribution of this research lies in providing new insights to managers and policymakers to enhance strategic decision-making aimed at improving sustainability and social welfare within green supply chains.

Today, sustainable development has been proposed as an alternative to industrial development, and the environmental consequences and lack of resources on the planet have become the main concern of societies. Industry managers, especially in advanced countries, are looking for ways to increase the performance of their organization while protecting the environment. In this regard, paying attention to the green supply chain has received a lot of attention. One of the solutions to this problem, which has recently attracted the attention of industries and researchers, is choosing a green supplier. That is, purchasing units in companies should pay attention to green criteria in their purchasing process from suppliers throughout the supply chain. The concept of green supplier is to provide materials that consume less resources and energy and are non-toxic and do not destroy the environment. The aim of this paper is to develop a bi-objective model based on traditional and green supplier selection criteria and the simultaneous integration of the fuzzy AHP method, multi-objective optimization along with the use of the incremental discount concept. In this research, an integrated model that combines price-related decisions and traditional criteria with green criteria for selecting a green supplier has been presented. Finally, the performance of the model has been investigated and analyzed using a real example in the Lingo software and by the LP metric method. After solving the mentioned bi-objective model, the value of the first objective function is equal to 3.547628 and the value of the second objective function is equal to 1060513.

The construction supply chain is presently the focus of considerable interest among numerous project-related businesses. Strong project management is essential for the effective completion of a project, since restricted budgets and time constraints are considered for each project. The research uses multi-objective linear programming to create a mathematical model of the building supply chain. The primary aims of the present investigation are to limit the expenses associated with logistics and to diminish the release of greenhouse gases caused by transportation. Given the reality of managing several projects concurrently, the model provided comprises a network of projects. Following the completion of each project, an inspection is arranged to assess its level of success. Estimating the costs of a project relies on several variables. In reality, there are always uncertainties highlighted in several studies about the uncertainty of cost and time parameters. This research incorporates many characteristics concurrently to simulate real-world settings and address the issue of uncertainty. The expression of uncertainty for all costs, activity length, inspection, supplier capacity, and resource demand are represented by triangular fuzzy numbers. Ultimately, the precision of the model's performance has been verified using a numerical illustration.

In today’s growing world, the Green Supply Chain (GSC) is a new approach to include environmental impacts and economic goals in a supply chain network. This paper continues previous research studies by designing a new green supply chain network considering different social, economic, environmental, service level, and shortage aspects. This study introduces a fresh, comprehensive tradeoff model that considers factors such as overall expenses, quality of service, environmental pollution levels, and societal impacts within a sustainable supply chain. The proposed model is formulated as a multi-product multi-objective mixed-integer programming model to assist in planning a green supply chain. The suggested model has three objective functions: maximizing social responsibility, minimizing the cost of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and minimizing economic costs. The model allows for shortages in the form of backorders and seeks to maximize service level in addition to the mentioned objective functions. Robust Possibilistic Programming (RPP) was employed to deal with the problem's uncertain input parameters in the solution approach. Also, a multi-objective model of the problem was solved using Fuzzy Goal Programming (FGP). To examine and evaluate the model in a simple framework, the proposed mathematical model of the problem was implemented in an industrial unit in the real world, and the results obtained from it were analyzed. Among the results that the output of the model provides to managers and decision-makers, it is possible to mention the determination of the optimal amount of production of each product in the manufacturing plants, quantity of products and parts transported between facilities, and also the determination of the of network's carbon emissions which is equal to 51.59 tons.

Environmental pollution and the deterioration of natural resources are now considered significant challenges in human societies. In fact, environmental pollution is mainly caused by manufacturing industries. Most industries (e.g., the cement industry) employ the green supply chain to overcome ecological problems, a goal that requires various techniques for quantifying the environmental impacts on the supply chain to improve processes. This study aimed to evaluate the green supply chain performance at 11 cement manufacturing factories through the hybrid BSC–DEA approach within the 2018–2020 period. After the principal indices were identified and placed in each perspective of the balanced scorecard (BSC), the DEMATEL technique was adopted to determine the relationships of perspectives. The multistage data envelopment analysis (DEA) model was then employed to measure the efficiency of each BSC perspective and the total network efficiency. Finally, reference units were introduced to improve the inefficient units. According to the results, managers focus mainly on the financial section and customers but pay less attention to growth and learning. The organization yielded the best efficiency in 2020 by following an upward trend. The energy consumption rate, clinker–cement ratio, and CO2 emission rate were analyzed in this study to better investigate the environmental problems in the cement industry. Most of the units followed upward trends in both CO2 emission and energy consumption but experienced a downward trend in clinker production.

In managing a supply chain, the green approach has become pivotal for the sake of environmental, economic, and social sustainability. In this paper, we consider the environmental performance prediction in managing sourcing of a textile industry supply chain. Specifically, this research focuses on the dying sector of an emerging economy. We identify eleven green supply chain performance indicators and four performance measures and perform both qualitative and quantitative analyses. The performance is predicted using a probabilistic model based on a Bayesian belief network (BBN). The robustness of the findings is validated through a sensitivity analysis. The outcomes suggest that ‘total suspended solids’ (TSS) and ‘volatile organic compounds’ (VOC) are the most important indicators for the case company in this study with the highest entropy reduction. Also, ‘air emission’ was found to be the most impactful performance measure for entropy reduction. This research work will help improve the decision-making capability of the managers and practitioners considering the total environmental performance of the green supply chain. The improved decision-making will also improve overall organizational performance of a green supply chain.

As environmental policies are highlighted in the green supply chain, it plays an essential role in improving the supply chain capabilities. On the other hand, considering the development of technology and the Internet of Things intelligence and their potentials in goal achievement, it is important to investigate and study their applications in this field. This study aims to identify the most important criteria in selecting a green supplier and investigate the impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) on this selection. To achieve these objectives, the fuzzy cognitive map (FCM) method is used to identify the effective weights of each criterion and introduce the most effective criterion by examining the centrality. The fuzzy hierarchical analysis (FAHP) is used to investigate the role of IoT in the green supply chain. The results indicate that air pollution control is the most important criterion for evaluating the suppliers and also has the greatest impact on IoT.

One of the key steps in greening supply chains is to investigate the environmental requirements and factors in supplier selection. Today supply chain networks are known as the main pillar of economic activities. To this end, in this article a multi-period, multi-product, multi-objective closed-loop supply chain problem has been investigated. Moreover, the return of defective products to the production cycle and the general and progressive simultaneous discount policy have been considered through an integer linear mathematical model. The presented model generates Pareto solutions using two proposed meta-heuristic algorithms, multi objective particle swarm optimization and non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm and combination of the two. To compare the performance of the solution methods, five criteria are defined and the numerical results show the efficiency and quality of the proposed hybrid algorithm.

This study proposes a novel sustainable multi-objective agri-food supply chain in Mushroom industry due to the lack of economic, environmental, and social aspects that the prior studies neglected. The proposed study examines a four-echelon model including suppliers, intermediate manufacturers, final manufacturers and markets (plus secondary market). The model is also validated to provide insights into a relevant industry. The results indicated that investment in the oyster mushroom would lead to economic and social improvements. Moreover, investing in the button mushroom was observed to improve all three sustainability aspects. In the case of investing in the oyster and button mushroom, increasing the capacity of compost factories and sales price would lead to different results. Furthermore, the profitability of the supply chain was found to rise when waste is sold in the secondary market. Therefore, managers can adopt different strategies under different circumstances based on their priorities to raise supply chain profitability.

Supply chain management has significant economic and environmental effects, including strategic, tactical, and operational decisions. According to the need for further cost reduction and improving the process of the organization in the direction of customer demand, the concept of the supply chain has become increasingly important, and the organizations seek to expand this concept within their organizational framework. In this regard, efficient planning of products distribution in the supply chain considering disruption is very important. Thus, this study develops a multi-objective mixed-integer programming mathematical model to design a green multi-echelon closed-loop supply chain with the possibility of disruptions. Furthermore, the ε-constraint method is applied to solve and validate the proposed model in small-scale problems. On the other hand, a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm is developed for solving large-sized problems. Results indicate that the proposed model has performed well in obtaining optimal solutions, and the proposed algorithm has an efficient performance.

Today, most supply chains are moving towards green business with a greater focus on environmental protection as a competitive advantage. Among them, the design of a three-stage green supply chain with optimal allocation, a multiple supply chain that includes supplier (first stage), manufacturer (second stage) and distributor (third stage), based on maximum efficiency and considering the internal processes and products between these three levels, can be of special importance; because, it will increase the economic and environmental performance of the supply chain. One of the methods used to evaluate efficiency in Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) is Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Therefore, performance evaluation is vital for companies to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the supply chain. In this study, using the three-stage approach of DEA, the data collected in 2020 from 9 Selected home appliance companies have been analyzed. The results show that company 1 has the best efficiency and the greenest supply chain and company 7 has the worst value of efficiency, which makes it necessary to pay more attention to low performance companies. In order to show the capability of the proposed model, the developed model was compared with its equivalent base model, and companies 1 and 2 were identified as inefficient in the proposed model, but identified as efficient in the base model. Given that the efficiency score in the proposed model is always lower than the base model, so the accuracy of the developed model can be concluded.

Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) is defined as the integration of environmental thinking into supply-chain management, including product design, material sourcing and selection, manufacturing processes and procurement. Generally, the sustainable supply chain is built on three dimensions: social, economic, and environmental, while the green supply chain emphasizes on the environmental issue considering an economic result. Although many works of sustainable growth heed attention on the profit margin as a first priority, however, the green supply chain focuses on the environmental issue along with an efficacious process, which is a beneficial to the environment as well. There are over 200 papers about GSCM. But among them, very few papers focus on the Pharmaceutical Industry, specially focusing on the supplier. But this paper focuses on implementing GSCM on Pharmaceutical Industry. Multi-objective Optimization Model has been applied here. Performance of the proposed model is evaluated by the Pycharm Solver of Python.

Sustainability of supply chain in economic systems and green supply chain management has widely attracted researchers’ attention by raising awareness of environmental effects. On the other hand, the lean supply chain is another concept whose implementation in organizations is expected to result in improved sustainability in industries. The present study aims to analyze the policy-based roles of the lean supply chain and green supply chain concepts in the corporation sustainability by designing a system dynamics model of the supply chain in CHOUKA Iran Wood & Paper Industries Inc. To this end, after a review of the literature with collaborations from decision-makers and CHOUKA data, the system dynamics model was designed in Vensim, and the model was simulated in a 10-year horizon after verification. Considering the behavior of the variables and the Monte Carlo sensitivity analysis, the model was simulated in the horizon, the green supply chain policies, the lean supply chain management and CHOUKA's business profitability were designed and applied on the model both in separate and integrative manners, the results were compared, and the behaviors of the policies were analyzed. As for the findings of the model simulation, the selected combination of the policies of lean supply chain management and green supply chain management, as well as CHOUKA’s business profitability, was proposed as the best integrative sustainability policy for CHOUKA Iran Wood & Paper Industries supply chain management. The results generally indicated that simultaneous implementation of lean and green supply chain policies leads to synergy in supply chain sustainability

Incentive by the recent global trend in greenhouse gases (GHG) emission reduction strategies and considering the evolution of business models from traditional to multi-channel, in this research, we analyze a dual-channel green supply chain in which a manufacturer delivers a product through one direct channel and one retail channel whose demand are uncertain and prices in channels can effect on customer demand. Modeling this chain is carried out by accounting for the optimal price of distribution channels, total profit optimization, and reduction of transportation cost, we well as minimizing CO2 emission that the CO2 emission is investigated through transportation mode choice. The proposed model has developed first a mixed-integer nonlinear programming and a theoretical technique is applied to linearizing the problem. To solve the proposed multi-objective Possibilistic programming model, the Jimenez and TH approach has been used. The model is verified by numerical experiments and then several sensitivity analyses have performed. Computational results proved the efficiency of the model in finding a trade-off between economic and environmental objectives so that if transportation costs are equal to both markets, in order to balance the goals, the model uses vehicles that have a less environmental impact. In addition, the proposed solution method enables the decision maker to determine the importance of each objective function. The decision-maker is also able to influence the optimal price of distribution channels by changing the parameters in the demand-price equation and maximize the total profit of the supply chain.
