Demographic characteristics and wright test titers in patients who has treated with diagnosis of brucellosis

Iran is one of the endemic countries of brucellosis. The prevalence of this disease in Iran is about 225 in 1000000. In this study the authors wanted to evaluate the demographic characteristics and wright test titers in patients who had treated with diagnosis of brucellosis. Methods and Materials: In this descriptive cross sectional study; the dossier of 168 patients with brucellosis between 2005 and 2008 has been evaluated. Mean of the age of the studied patients was 28.51 ± 17.07 years and the most of the patients were in 10-29 year group. 68.5% of the patients were male and 31.5% were female. Most of the patients (60.1%) were rancher; and wright titer was 1/320 in 33.1% of the cases. Ranchers and the individuals with 10 – 29 years old are the groups with the most risk for brucellosis. Men are more in risk than women. It is better to dilute the serum of the patients up to 1/320 in standard tube agglutination test.
