Examination of attitudinal and motivational factors, in predicting Mathematics achievement, in order to compile a structural model, for second grade high school students

Abstract:
Mathematic is one of the important lessons that can affect all areas of life. The purpose of present article was to make research in order to compiling a model for explaining and predicting mathematics achievement based on motivational attitudes. Method of research was prediction type of correlation. After preparing measuring tools and determine its validity and reliability, among the statistical society of second year governmental male high school students, of Tehran, a sample of 120 students using multi-stage cluster were selected and the students completed the questionnaires. Also Mathematics scores were used as basis for mathematics achievement. SPSS software employed for analyzing data. Then the proposed model was tested by LISREL software and regression equation computed and hypothesizes were tested. Results of first the hypothesis showed that individual, familial and scholastic factors could formulate the regression equation and showed that these three factors, determine 98 percent of the variance on the mathematical progress. For the second hypothesis test path analysis was used and results revealed that proposed model had not fit index and this hypothesis did not confirmed. Results of testing the third hypothesis showed that all three factors partially predict mathematical achievement (I.F=. /67, F.F=. /61 and S.F=. /49). The forth hypothesis testing revealed that with respect to F.F, A.F can predict more variance of mathematical achievement. Although familial factors have significant effect on mathematic achievements.
