Skeletal Changes in patients with beta - talassemia major in Ahwaz- Iran 2008

Thalassemia is the most common monogenic disorder in human. The major type has sever clinical symptoms with craniofacial defects, that produce estetic problem in patients. Orthodontic treatment and surgical reconstruction in these patients have had good estethic results and therefore satisfying pschycosocial effects. Reserches have shown an increase at the level of life guality corresponding to health improvement in thalassemic patients. In Iran prevalence of thalassemia is relatively high (% 5 - %10) and kuzestan province is ranked as the second province involved in Iran More knowledge and information is necessary for better treatment of skeletal problem of thalassemia. Therfore this study was performed in orther to get more information knowledge about talassemia. Subjectis and This descriptive and analytic study was performed on 48 beta thalassemia major paitients and 48 normal samplls. They were divided in two groups (24 persons) based on their genders.
