An investigation of current status of political education in elementary curriculum: a qualitative study

Abstract:
the purpose of the present research was to study current status of political education in formal elementary curriculum. The method used was descriptive-analytical. The main research techniques were qualitative content analysis and document review. So, textbooks and curriculum framework of social studies, Persian language and Islamic education were used in analysis process. The results show that the current status of political education in the elementary curriculum is not desirable. Most of objectives are addressed cognitive and affective domain, while less attention has been paid to political skills or psycho-motor domain. Other findings revealed that content of political education have failed to provide a good opportunity for political education in elementary schools based on religious democracy theory. Although proposed teaching and evaluation methods and techniques appear to be optimal, however due to the weakness and shortcomings of educational content, cannot be affective. And finally between the mentioned curricula from the perspective of political education there is no coordination.
