The purpose of the present study is to investigate the Five Level Academic Leadership among deans in comprehensive universities located in Tehran. A random sample of 13 deans and 150 faculty members of Shahid Beheshti University and Tarbiat Modarres University participated in this survey study. Data were collected by two instruments. The first one was the 5th Level Leadership questionnaires developed by the. The second one was a standardized questionnaire which developed by Ramsden to measure effective academic leadership. Results showed that deans had personality traits of5th level leaders whereas they didn’t have professional traits of leaders at the same level. The relation between personality traits and professional traits was found to be significant. From faculty members'' point of view، deans associated with the 5th level leadership were found to be more effective than others.
