A Study of Effect of Cultural Factors on Satisfaction with Migration: Case Study of Ilam

Previous studies have shown that when people enter a new cultural environment which is different from their own culture, they face a lot of problems to adapt themselves with the new environment. This may result in intense dissatisfaction with the new situation. The data for the present study were collected from a randomly-selected sample of 300 people, from among a population of 1100, through questionnaires and interviews. To determine the reliability of the instrumentations used Cronbach Alpha was employed. For hypothesis testing, Pearson product correlation, variance analysis and regression were used.In this paper, from among all cultural factors, the effect of acculturation, social networks and religious attitudes have been examined. The findings indicate that there is a significant relationship between migrants’ satisfaction with migration and acculturation in the destination (r=.68), religious attitudes (r=.46), existence of social networks in the destination (r=.59), length of residence (r=. 44), educational facilities (r=. 39), health facilities (r=. 41), the distance between origin and destination (r=.67), and hosts’ behavior (r=.37). Moreover, multiple repression showed that the dependent variable is directly influenced by acculturation (beta=. 33), religious attitudes (beta=. 30), social networks (beta=. 46), education (beta =. 17), educational facilities (beta=. 20), health facilities (beta =. 39), hosts’ behavior (beta=. 11), length of residence (beta =. 44), and gender (beta =. 19). The totality of the above-mentioned variables explain 65% of the variation related to the dependent variable.
