An Overview of Lyricism of Akhavan Sales (M. Omid)

Mehdi Akhavan Sales as a great contemporary poet is one of the main features of Persian modern poetry. Toughnanni, Ghazels and lyric are important parts of the Akhavan Sales poetic heritage. The theoretical concerns of Akhavan Sales about poetry is strongly related to his conception about Toughnanni, lyric, essence of Ghazels and Ghana. This article is an overview of the content and form of Akhavan Sales Toughnanni. Unlike many contemporary poets, Akhavan Sales has spiritual and traditional traits of a mystic man. His language in Ghazel, like his other successful works, is a combination of two aspects of Archaism and today language. Relationship between these two parts is organized based on ‘tendency to prose logic’. The main difference of Akhavan language in this work with his other poems is related to its fewer Archaism and more tendency towards logical prose particularly at the beginning of the poems. His poetic language in the peak moments of the Ghazels moves towards Archaism. Moreover, images play important role in his poetry especially Ghazel. However, his success always drops veil when composing ‘syntax lyrics’. Another part of this study is to review some applicable devices and methods of great use in M. Omid poetry.
