Structural analysis of the second semester multiple choice questions at Faculty of Health (Qazvin University of Medical Sciences) in 2010-2011

Abstract:
Background
The multiple choice questions are considered as the most common types of medical tests when they are given a high degree of reliability. But the different parameters have always been interested to researchers including the content validity, structure, taxonomy, and their structural principles.
Objective
This study was conducted to investigate the structural analysis of the second semester multiple choice questions at the school of health (Qazvin University of Medical Sciences).
Methods
The present research was a descriptive study. A total of 300 questions designed for the final exams of 15 specialized courses from different fields of study including the public health, environmental health, and occupational health were evaluated. The structural analysis was assessed using a standard checklist of questions (Mylmn) to design the question stem.
Findings
The results of this analysis demonstrated that most questions designed had no difficulty in the structure (83/74%). The most common structural problems involving the use of the terms "all" or "none" option (6%), the gap in the beginning or middle of the stem questions (3/1 %), and not put the text on a page (3/3 %).
Conclusion
Due to the design of the standard multiple choice questions, it is recommend to continuous monitoring design exam questions and holding of the exam questions training courses.
