Internal evaluation of environmental health department of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences

Abstract:
Background
Educational evaluation is a formal activity to determine effectiveness or value of program, process, goal and curriculum. Internal evaluation is a process that deals with gathering Information and Judging about educational activity improvement.
Objective
This study has been done to internal evaluation of the environmental health department of Qazvin University of medical sciences in 2010.
Methods
This analytic, cross sectional study was conducted in 9 domains to evaluate the environmental health department. Data were collected using a questionnaire based on the ten-step internal evaluation that was prepared by Ministry of Health and Medical Education. In the model that used in this study, the existing situation and the desirability was determined. If at least 70% of the indicators in each domain were favorable that domain was considered desirable, between 40% -70% of them were desirable, semi- desirable and if less than 40% of the indicators were favorable that domain was considered unfavorable.
Findings
The results indicate that in the domain of mission 40%, curriculum 82%, faculty members 57%, materials 17%, administration 50%, graduated 40%, evaluation 34 % and in the domain of research, 67 % of the indicators are desirable.
Conclusion
According to the results, the situation in the domain of curriculum is favorable. The situation in areas of assessment and educational resources is unfavorable. In the domain of mission, faculty member, management, graduated and research the situation is the semi-desirable. Researchers have some suggestions including taking defined strategies for reinforcing using modern educational policies, reinforcing educational resources and planning for revision the unfavorable and semi-desirable domains.
