The participation of the faculty members of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in scientific production from 2000 to 2010

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the scientific output of the facultymembers of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM) on the Web of Science (WoS)in an 11-years period from 2000 to 2010 at national and international levels. The population of this research consisted of scientific productions by the faculty members of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad indexed in the Web of Science in fourareas of agriculture, basic sciences, engineering, and humanities (2038 documents)during 2000-2010. In this study, sampling was not carried out and all the productsby the faculty members were analyzed. The results showed that FUM faculty members published around 1898documents in different formats from. The results also showed that, among others, thefaculty members of basic sciences, and especially of chemistry, were very active inpublishing and citing papers. The growth rate of production at FUM was good andthe most productions were done in 2010. The most level of collaboration of FUMfaculty members was in basic science, engineering, and agriculture areasrespectively. It was also found that variables such as place of graduation, and genderof faculty members had no impact on the scientific productions by them, but therewas a significant difference between the faculty member's scientific position andtheir scientific outputs. In general, FUM faculty member's scientific productions inthe Web of Science database were not acceptable. Albeit the trend of scientific production of FUM in the investigated period was growing, but it was not the same in all of areas. So the authorities of FUM have toprovide the conditions for the faculty members to have more stimulant and vigor topublish papers at international level, to improve the status of FUM.
