of Rail Track Parameters on a Wagon Overturning Phenomena

Safety in railway operation is a function of track condition and railroad vehicle. If safety is not achieved, derailment will occur. Derailment can be grouped into four categories: 1) Derailment Caused by Gauge Widening and Rail Rollover 2) Derailment Caused by Track Panel Shift 3) flange climb derailment and 4) overturning. All of these four groups are important but there is little research on the overturning especially in high axle loads and high speed cases. In this research, evaluation of the effective parameters on overturning phenomena is presented considering the results of vast sensitivity analyses. For this goal, dynamical modeling of the chosen both freight and passenger wagons in a standard railway track using ADAMS/RAIL software is developed and the effect of the track geometry, track structure and operational factors of the wagons are studied in vehicle overturning. The results showed that geometrical factors, especially curve radius and track gauge as well as speed had the most impacts on overturning while the even track stiffness changed the results less than 4 percent.
