A Survey on the Relationship between Mental Health and Job Satisfaction among the Librarians of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and Health Services

Considering the important effect of job satisfaction on productivity of organizations, the purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between mental health and job satisfaction of librarians. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study enjoys the analytical-survey method of research. The data gathering tools in this study are the Mental Health and Job Descriptive Index questionnaires, and the statistical population comprises the librarians of the libraries of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and Health Services. The average mental health of the librarians is estimated 37/45 and the average job satisfaction of the librarians is estimated 58/160 both of which are at an average level. This statistics represents no significant relationship between mental health and job satisfaction of the librarians. From the view point of relationship between mental health and job satisfaction of the librarians, this study also represents no significant differences between male and female librarians based on gender classification. The lack of a significant relationship between mental health and job satisfaction of the librarians is a controversial finding which highlights the role of organizational variables in job satisfaction of librarians. Detecting the different organizational and psychological factors effective in relationship between both variables of librarians’ mental health and job satisfaction claims more research.
