Comparison of Personality Traits in Substance-Dependent and Non Dependent Soldiers

The armed forces constitute the defensive foundation of a country meanwhile drug-dependency is regarded as damaging and incapacitating to military organizations. Hence this article aims was comparison of personality traits of substance-dependent and non-dependent soldiers in the time period of 1389. The article is a comparative descriptive study in which، a sample population of 100 soldiers comprising 50 substance-dependent and 50 non addicts are surveyed. The sample population have already done 6 months of their national service and none of them was physically suffering from a particular disease while the research undertaking. The tools employed in this research are NEO-FFI and demographic questionnaires and the data provided was analyzed by descriptive statistic (frequency، percentage، mean، standard deviation) alongside inferential statistic (means’ comparison، ANOVA) measures using SPSS software (version 16). The results suggest that the drug-dependent’s mean scores significantly differ from non-addict soldiers’ in the scales of Neuroticism (p<0/001)، Extroversion (p<0/001)، Openness to Experience (p<0/001) and Conscientiousness (p<0/001); Even so they didn’t vary together so much in respect of Agreeableness. In conclusion، substance-dependent soldiers possess fewer attributes compared to the non-dependent and as a result، they undergo severer life conditions. Moreover they need constant supervision in order to cover their vulnerability.
