A Review of the Impact of the Growth of Persian Satellite Networks on the Cultural Identity of Families

It is more than two decades that satellites have found their way into political, social and cultural arenas besides their previous missions in the military field and they are utilized as strategic weapons by the governments having this kind of technology, particularly the hegemonic countries. Meanwhile, the threat to national, religious and cultural identity of families is one of the most important issues raised in the field of satellite programs. In our country, the most significant problem related to satellite programs is that most of the cultures of the world do not match our religious culture and belief system. In the traditional system, the family was seen as the main agent of cultural identity but along with the social changes and technological growth, we see that other agents such as the mass media influence the cultural identity of individuals. Among the various, modern media, the satellite channels having one of the widest audience play an important role in shaping the personality of individuals today. Hence, the present paper examines the mechanism and the role of the satellite channels in creating family cultural identity crisis. To fulfill this objective, the analytical-descriptive research method has been utilized here.
