Comparison strength of stiffened steel plates with SPSs under transverse pressure by using Ansys software

In this paper the shell 281 element in Ansys software is used to estimate maximum stress and displacement for two types of stiffened steel panels and two types of SPSs under transverse pressure then the weights of each one with regard to density and volume are calculated.Finally it is shown weights of SPSs are more than stiffened steel panels. This is because the thicknesses of plates for SPSs are uniform. Application of SPSs in ships cause vanish many stiffeners and so reduce the overall weight of ship.The ratio of maximum stress to height of stiffeners is very larger than stiffened steel plates. This ratio is a good criterion for design of SPSs; because it reducesthe results. This ratio is first time to introduce.
