THE ATTITUDE OF STUDENTS OF NURSING AND PUBLIC HEALTH FACULTY ON THEIR TEACHERS EVALUATION, 2011

Abstract:
Background and Aims

Medical universities need to the competent and motivated teachers as an important factor in education and training of the students. Understanding the affecting factors on the performance of faculty members is a necessity that can increase the productivity، job satisfaction and success planning in useful environment. This study aimed to determine the attitude of students toward their teachers based on formal evaluation system.

Materials and Methods

In this cross-sectional study، all students of nursing college of Khoy (151student) were studied. Then students were divided in three groups of weak، average and excellent، their attitudes were assessed through self-made questionnaire. After data collection، data analysis was done by SPSS software، descriptive statistics and spearman correlation.

Results

Study findings showed that the average age of students was 20/89 ± 1/52 years. 62/9 percent of students were female، and 58/3 percent of the students were average students. Evaluation time (timesheets distribution and expert explanations) and awareness of students in filling the questionnaires on masters’ evaluation were appropriate according to the students. About the theoretical and clinical questionnaires outlines، students were more focused on communication aspects and teachers learning styles in concepts conveying. The results also showed that the score level of students hasn''t effect on their evaluation (P=0/9)، While statistically significant positive correlation is between students attitudes and their semester (P= 0/11)، and gender (P= 0/001). So that the higher، the semester، the more negative the attitude. Male students had more negative the attitudes as well.

Conclusion

According to the study findings، this evaluation is acceptable for students، and their score level hadn''t much effect on teacher evaluation. So، this variable shouldn''t be considered as an affective factor in teacher evaluation.
