The impact of the features of organizational culture on establishing teleworking

In post-industrial age known as "the age of uncertainty", the common form of labor has collapsed. The emergence of modern technologies and occurrence of broad developments in social and psychological areas, predicts a new order for the future of labor which will entail several advantages for individuals, organizations, society and the environment. "Teleworking" as a new form of doing labor in this age, is a way in which an employee can perform his/her professional duties and tasks more flexibly, using information technology without the need to be physically present at the office and traditional workplaces. Although the tendency to establish teleworking system in the current working contexts seems inevitable for all organizations, the function and influence of various factors including the information technology, employee's knowledge and organizational culture in developing this tendency should be taken into account. Based on the data collected from a sample consisting of 60 employees of the Ministry of Education, Shiraz Branch, the present study intends to explore the impact of the characteristics of organizational culture on teleworking during the first half of Iranian calendar year of 1390. The findings suggest that variables of self-control, creativity and formal control have the highest impact on establishing teleworking system and on the other hand, the variables of reward, risk-taking have the lowest impact. In general, it can be claimed that the organizational culture influences teleworking.
