The epidemiology of suicide and related factors in the city of Lordegan from 2001 to 2011

Suicide is a health related problem and is a social pathology that. there are a lots of risk factors in which. This study was done for investigation of these factors for effective prevention and intervention in the under study population. In this descriptive analytical study، 233 cases of suicide attempts in Lordegan city during 2001-2011 were studied. The required data were collected through forms which were designed for this purpose and then data were analyzed through Pearson correlation coefficient and chi-square test، using SPSS software and Krummer and exact Fisher tests. This study indicated that 77. 6% of 223 cases were in the ages of 15-34 years old، 64. 8% of them were women، 36. 2% of them had primary educations، 75. 5% of them inhabited in villages، 34. 8% of these cases leaded to death، 54. 5% of them were single، and the most prevalent way used to suicide was consuming drugs (approximately 47. 6%). The most reason of committing suicide was family problems (approximately 62. 2%)، the maximum rate of committing suicide resulting in death was mostly reported in fall season. (28. 8) the statistical tests indicated that there are a significant relationship between the result of suicide with the way of committing that (P=0. 001)، outcome of suicide with seasons (P= 0. 002) and attempt to suicide with gender (P=0. 001). but no significant relationship was found between committing suicide and other factors (P<0. 05). Considering the fact that suicide attempt occur among youth، married women، single men، villagers، and individuals with elementary education more than other people،it is necessary that preventive measures be anticipated for these groups by the researchers.
