Microbial air monitoring in operating theatres in Hospitals of North Khorasan University of medical sciences in Bojnourd city during 2013

between hospital wards, operating theatres are very important because of special conditions of patients such as opening of surgical sites and increases the chance of infection at internal body tissues to bacterial contamination. Therefore the purpose of this study are to evaluate the level of microbial contamination of air in Emam Ali and Bentolhoda operating theatres using passive sampling system and decrease of nosocomial infections. Method and Materials: microbial air contamination was evaluated through passive sampling using tryptone soya agar between March and May 2013. Differential tests such as catalase, oxidize, DNASE, indole, hemolysis, gram stain and motility were performed. during surgery, the mean bacterial loads recorded were 471 and 110 cfu/m2/hr in Emam Ali and Bentolhoda hospitals, respectively. Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus mitis and Bacillus Subtilis were detected in most operating theatres. While environmental health management and microbal contamination in operating theatres have been ignored, they can cause disorder in recovery, spread of sickness by infections, prolonged of hospitalization and causing Spiritual and material costs.
