Evaluation of Evidence Based Dentistry Knowledge and Usage among Postgraduate Dental Students of Mashhad Dental School in 2012-2013

In recent years, clinical expertise has been mixed with research evidence in order to increase the quality of treatments. Learning evidence based dentistry (EBD) is important because of difficulties in finding the evidence based sources in huge amount of articles, books. This article was carried out to show the amount of knowledge and usage of EBD at Mashhad dental school, postgraduate students. Ninety nine post graduate students participated in this cross sectional study conducted at Mashhad dental school, in 2012. The data were collected by questionnaires and analysed by SPSS version 11.5. Ninety Six percent of postgraduate students believed that using EBD would bring better results in treating patients, while only 5 percent of them use EBD in clinic as a usual trend. Despite postgraduate students’ positive attitude toward EBD and access to the internet, they have little knowledge about special evidence based web sites and references. Maybe this is due to they have not spent special courses. Because of the importance of this concept in clinical decisions and the need for educational programs (curriculum) should be corrected and modified.
