An Analytic Model for Research-based Education in Iranian Army Universities (A case study: Shahid Sattari Aviation University)

Abstract:
Due to the failure of conventional trainings to empower the graduates from army universities to be successful in their mission, organizational management and employment of military equipment, and emphasis by the Supreme Leader and Commander- in- chief on research-based education, this study aimed to introduce such a model for the army universities. As an applied research in nature and descriptive analytic in design, this study involved 334 participants, including the students and professors selected based on random stratified sampling. To collect required data, a researchermade 30-item questionnaire enjoying acceptable indices of validity and reliability was administered. To analyze the data, various t-tests and Friedman test for ranking the variables were conducted. The findings revealed that the participant's perspectives correlate in terms of teaching and learning approaches; however; they differ in other variables including syllabus design and materials, and as to various facilities and infrastructures such that the professors are more positive. Meanwhile, significant differences were explored among the variables in terms of inter-variable rankings showing an ascending order of variables; military-administrative facilities, educational-research facilities, syllabus design and materials, and finally teaching learning approaches. Then, three sets of variables stand below the mean but only the military administrative one stands above the mean. Accordingly, the variables building up a research-based education do not enjoy satisfactory status quo and they need further strengthening and attention.
