Identifying Barriers to the Implementation of Knowledge Management: A case study

Abstract:
The main purpose of this study is to explore barriers to implement knowledge management in Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. To achieve this goal, the survey research method was used. In order to collect the required data, the Delphi technique was used. All members of participants in knowledge management course are selected as target population (n=111). According to Content analysis, eight main factors were identified as key factors. The most important factors include the cultural, cognitive, structural and technical factors. Those factors as barriers of knowledge management include reward system, manager - employee relationship, the nature of tasks, social interaction, learning, trust and integrity, understanding knowledge management and technical support. Also, the results showed that there is a significant correlation between the reward system and the nature of tasks; manager - employee relationship and trust; and knowledge management familiarity and the nature of tasks.
