The Impact of the Growth of Female Student's Admission to Universities on the Functions of Family From the Viewpoint of the Faculty Members of Isfahan University

Family is one of the most fundamental social institutions whose functions are seriously influenced by socioeconomic developments. Research results show that the educational level of husband and wife is one of the factors affecting the family functions. One of the developments of the recent decades in Iran is the growth of the presence of women at different levels of higher education and the rise of the admission rate of women above 55 percent in national university entrance exam. The aim of this study is to evaluate the results and consequences of this phenomenon for family. The research method is descriptive-survey and the population includes the faculty members of Isfahan University. The sample consists of 125 subjects (112 males and 13 females) who were selected through multi-stage random sampling technique. The data was collected using both quantitative (a researcher-made questionnaire) and qualitative (a semi-structured interview) methods.The findings showed that the growth of female students’ admission to higher education centers has above-moderate impact on all family functions including the training, protective, sexual behavior restraint, and economic functions.
