Identifying psychosocial traumas and approaches to decreasing them from the view points of counselors, administrators and students living in dormitories

Considering social traumas in university atmosphere especially dormitories is of critical importance as students meet new people with different cultures far from their families in a new place. Present study aims to analyze social traumas of dormitories and students’ out- campus houses and to present approaches to decrease these traumas. Statistical community is students living in dormitories and out-campus houses and also dormitories’ counselors and administrators. The study sample in the first section includes 20 counselors and dormitories’ administrators and in the second section it includes 26 persons in focus groups including (7 counselors, 9 administrators and 10 students) which have been selected randomly. Data have been collected qualitatively. Individual semi-structured interviews and focus group were the instruments to collect necessary information for the research. Focus group interviews have been done in 7 to 10 member groups. Considering students, consolers and administrators point of view, inappropriate monitoring, communicative and sexual issues and drug abuse are prioritized, respectively. Suggested approaches by consolers, administrators and students, increasing facilities (dormitories, bus,…), develop proper activities for leisure time, selecting skillful guards and administrators and economical support of university for students have had the highest frequency. Results of this research can help university authorities and other organizations to decrease traumas and improve university students’ conditions.
