Corrosion Cast Study of Circulatory System in Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Nowadays, animal models are possible effectively to apply for research particularly in comparative anatomy. For this reason, the knowledge of cardiovascular system of fish related to the internal organs is necessary. In the present study, circulatory system of Common carp was studied by corrosion cast study. Ten Common carps were obtained from a commercial fish farm. Fish were anaesthetized using a benzocain solution, injected intraperitoneally with heparin and allowed to recover. Thirty minutes later, the fish were killed using an overdose of the benzocain solution and then, Resin was injected in caudal artery, bulbus arteriosus and ventral aorta. Fishes were submerged for 12-24 hours in a bath water at room temperature till polymerization and hardening of methylmetacrylate. Then, they were put in a 25% KOH solution for 24-48 hours to obtain a maceration of the organic tissue. Various parts of heart and vessels such as sinus venousus, atrium, ventricle, bulbus arteriosus, gills vessels, gastric vein, portal vein, hepatic vein, dorsal aorta, coeliacomesentric artery were determined.
