Investigating Job Satisfaction Factors for Librarians Working in Central Libraries in Tehran State Universities

The study originality lies in the importance of librarians’ satisfaction and their roles in education and research quality especially in a country like Iran in which few research on librarians’ attitude have been performed so far. Therefore، the current research is performed with the aim of investigating job satisfaction factors for librarians working in central libraries in Tehran state universities in 2011. The research is a descriptive survey. The tool for collecting data was an author-made questionnaire. In this research، from all central libraries of state universities in Tehran affiliated to Ministry of Research، Science and Technology five libraries were selected by a random sampling Method. Therefore the population consisted of 140 librarians working in the selected five libraries. The questionnaires were distributed to the participants by current paper researchers. Only 100 persons answered to and returned the distributed questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS version 15. The study reports a low job satisfaction. Participants mentioned their main dissatisfaction over the status of received library education، poor welfare facilities، job security and library management policies. Nonetheless، their satisfaction of inter-staffs relations and their work nature were high.
