Investigating the Appropriateness of the Level of the Health Literacy and Readability of Educational Resources Available to Diabetic Patients

This research aims to investigate the level of the health literacy of diabetic patients attending health centers in Shiraz (Iran) and the appropriateness of the available educational resources for these patients. In this descriptive research, 411 diabetic patients attending health centers in Shiraz (Iran) were selected as a sample population. Normalized functional health literacy questionnaire was used for data-collecting. 22 available educational resources were selected to assess the readability of the resources based on Dayyani Flesch formula.Findings/ The findings show that the level of the health literacy of these diabetic patients is at marginal Level. The educational resources are difficult for patients. The results show that there is not any appropriateness between the readability of educational resources and their health literacy.
