IMPACT OF VASECTOMY ON QUALITY OF LIFE AND SEXUAL FUNCTION OF THE WIVES IN URMIA, IRAN

Vasectomy is one of the most common contraceptive methods used by men. Couple’s choice and satisfaction with specific contraceptive methods are influenced by any impact of the method on their quality of life and sexual function. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the vasectomy on the quality of life and sexual function of the wives. In an uncontrolled pre-post intervention 86 wives of vasectomized men were assessed before and six months after vasectomy. World Health Organization`s QOL-BREF ‎questionnaire was used to investigate health related quality of life, and FSFI questionnaire to investigate sexual function. We found a significantly higher score for sexual satisfaction (P=0.008), orgasm and sexual drive (P=0.003) six months after vasectomy, as well as an improved WHOQOL psychological domain score (p=0.030). However, the other FSFI subscale scores, and WHOQOL-BREF domain scores were not significantly different. We conclude that vasectomy is associated with a significant improvement in sexual functions of wives.
