Satire in Mohammad Al-Moaghout's Works

Satire is an indirect criticism of evil and incompetence of society with a comic tone to improve defection and shortcomings; since those people who cannot directly criticize express themselves with equivocal, indirect, comic and sometimes bitter statements. Literature is a field that helps satire to develop the facts. The literary man can uncover the truth by his/her pen; poets and committed literary men in different countries express themselves in this way. One of the literary men that discusses the bitter facts of his society and of the Arab world and encourages the reader to think is Mohammad Maghoutt, he Syrian poet and writer. He was born under a political and social oppressive situation. Using satirical language, he talks of the problems and difficulties of the Arab world especially Palestine. Through analysis of the content, this paper aims to answer this question: how does satire manifest itself in Mohammad Maghout works? Analysis of his satires deal with the themes of poverty, class, freedom, and Arabic occupied territories. The present study provides a true understanding from this Syrian literary works for the readers and shows that Maghout's satire is corrective and aims towards the improvement of the society.
