Comparability and Incomparability Declaration in Ibn Arabi

Comparability and incomparability are two common terms in Islamic literature. Ibn Arabi, however, in view of his own principles particularly the unity of Being has provided a new interpretation of them according to which the true knowledge of God is obtained not in rejecting one in favor of the other but in both upholding comparability and declaring incomparability. On the basis of this new pattern of knowledge he attempted to reconcile two apparently incompatible scriptural statements of Divine Names and Attributes. The present article is to explain Ibn Arabi's view of problem and its theological implications.
