Effectiveness of Educational program Based on the planned Behavior theory on physical activity of reproductive women

Abstract:
Background and Aim
Physical inactivity is one of the major causes of illness and about 2 million deaths in the world each year. This study was carried out to determine the effect of educational intervention through the theory of planned behavior on the physical activities of reproductive women.
Materials And Methods
Study was designed as a randomized control trial. The study was carried out on 174 women (15-45 years old) who refered to No 3 Ahvaz health center were divided‚ randomly, into two equal intervention and control groups. The data were collected before and after intervention through the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, short form, and the questionnaire structure theory of planned behavior. The educational intervention was used on the intervention group‚ for 4 weeks and control group did not receive the intervention. Then questionnaires were completed by participants after 4 and 12 weeks. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, Independent t-test and general linear model repeated measures tests.
Results
After educational intervention the mean score of attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, intention (P=0.015) and Physical activity (P=0.0001) in the intervention group significantly increased in comparison to the control group at 4 and 12 weeks later.
Conclusion
Educational intervention through the theory of planned behavior has an acceptable influence on promotion of physical activity.
