Abstract:
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), incapacitating and disabled persons comprise about 10% of the world’s population. Over the past decade, safety actions taken to make urban entities and road network more sustainable were not integrated. It is obvious that all people living a community have the same right to use urban public facilities. As a result, given the importance and emphasis of improving urban road network to be more sustainable for all road users, especially for disabled persons, this study aims at developing strategies (actions) to make urban road network safer for all road users. The methodology used in this study is based on a review of relevant documents and field observations. To do this, related studies on safety improvements targeting disables persons will be reviewed at both national and global scales. Finally, several actions (strategies) aimed at making safer urban areas for incapacitating and physically-disables persons will be proposed and investigated.
