Prevalence of Enterobius vermicularis Infection among Preschool Children of Khash City Kindergartens, Khash, Iran, 2012

Enterobius vermicularis-the causative agent of Enterobiasis-is one of the most ubiquitous intestinal parasites infecting children worldwide. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of Oxyuris infections in preschool children among kindergartens of Khash City, Iran, 2012. In a cross-sectional study the sampling was accomplished randomly among 907 children aging from 1 to 6 years. Additional data was gathered using questionnaires which were given to parents with satisfaction forms. The samples were examined using scotch tape [Graham’s Test] by light microscopy and data was analyzed using SPSS.18 statistical software. The overall Oxyuris contamination was calculated to be 24.1% among preschool children. Considering gender, 28.7% of all girls and 19.5% of all boys were diagnosed to be infected. Considering data obtained from this study, since Enterobiasis infection rate in preschool children of Khash City was rather high it can be a serious problem to the whole population of society and should not be underestimated. To further limit its occurrence, public health measures and informative campaigns for the whole population and especially more for parents should be implemented.
