A Study of the Reflection of Issues Related to Library and Information Science in Widely Read Newspapers in Iran in the 1390

The objective of this research is to identify the rate, publication style and reflection of subject areas related to library and information science in widely read newspapers in 1390. In this research, the content analysis was used in order to investigate library and information science issues in widely read newspapers.The statistical society was all widely read newspapers in Iran in 1390. The samples were selected in two stages: At first, ten popular widely read newspapers were selected by a survey among 100 persons. Then, for each title of newspaper, two statistical weeks determined, one for the first six month of the year 1390 and other for the second six month of the year. The findings resulted from the content analysis of 120 widely read Iranian newspapers during 1390 indicated that issues related to library and information science had been mostly covered by the “Jam’e Jam” and “Ettela’at” newspapers. Furthermore, the findings showed that most of the content related to the field of library and information science had been presented in a matter-of-fact and journalistic style. A major part of the related content had a reactive and event-oriented nature. In addition, according to the findings of this study, the distribution of concepts and issues related to the field of library and information science in the newspapers has not been properly managed, with a high percentage of the related content being devoted to library events. Originality/Value: With attention to issue that a survey on the rate and publication styles of subjects related to library and information science in widely read newspapers has not been done in Iran. So, this research can provide a clear picture about the rate, publication style and reflection of subject areas related to library and information science in widely newspapers. Furthermore, results of this study can help official and planner in order to review the balance of reflection different subjects in widely newspapers.
