Psychological Capital Application in Police Activities Improvement

Police and security forces of every country is the most important column for preserving security and stability of the state. Furthermore due to nature of its activities in preserving social security، police job is confronted with problems، difficulties and potential risks that make its personnel ready for psychological، spiritual and professional harms. Recent approach of positive organizational theory inspired by and using positive Psychology movement، instead of focusing on such negative problems in organizational environment، has paid attention to personnel positive points and strong points and work environment and has proved that attention to capabilities and personnel strong points of such institutions and organizations resulted in personnel performance and morale increase. In fact، in positive approach، negative problems are considered through positive perspectives and instead of organizational and personnel pathology، their prosperity and better performance are confirmed. Psychological capital is one of the organizational behavior new concept that rooted in positive psychology and today recognized as an efficient tool for human resource effective management and competitive advantage creation. In this article، the history and the importance of positivity in work environment and also psychological capital and its consequences by focusing on policing and security institutions and organizations are reviewed and finally some suggestions for development of police personnel psychological capital are given.
